Heard on the Wireless

On A-Day, 16 thermonuclear warheads fell in or around the city of Atlanta, Georgia. While all primary and secondary communications centers were taken out in the first strike, a previously unknown radio station was able to stay on the air. This station is still broadcasting in the Atlanta area, despite the area's depopulation following the nuclear exchange. The following is a sampling of broadcasts in the following weeks.

----------

Zero days since A-Day: Good morning everyone. This is Thrixton in the Morning with your news update. The nukes are flying people! Be sure to stay indoors for the foreseeable future, as the current radiation levels are absolutely lethal! Stay calm, and listen here for more details on possible evacuation routes along the I-20, the I-75, and the I-85 in the coming days. I'd stay off the I-285 as it no longer exists in any meaningful way. And if you're in a highly impacted area remember that Thrixton in the Morning is here delivering the greatest hits from this world and the next. Next up? Everybody Walk the Dinosaur by Was Not Was. This is 90.5. Apocalypse Radio.

Three days since A-Day: I want to take a moment to thank all our listeners in and around Atlanta's greater metropolitan ghost town. There are still plenty of you out there proving that being dead isn't an excuse not to jam out to the greatest tunes this side of Saturn. For the few of you out there still kicking around, I want you to know that the supplies won't run out. You're all going to be fine. Just keep listening and just keep hoping. After all there's nothing to do now but listen to the music. This is 90.5. Apocalypse Radio.

Six days since A-Day: From what I understand many of our listeners are crossing over to the next world. At this point there's only a handful of you left in the land of the living. I want you to keep listening to my voice. Listen to my voice. Listen. It's not going to get any better from here, but you can still make it, I promise. Just try not to wake up. That's it. I promise. Up next, Bad Romance, by Lady Gaga. This is 90.5. Apocalypse Radio.

Ten days since A-Day: Only one of you left out there in radio land. Heather out of Alpharetta! Your bomb shelter was pretty well stocked and the air filtration system you insisted be installed is still functioning! Good for you. Unfortunately for you the world above wasn't quite as well prepared. Billions dead in the first exchange and now you're wondering if you can live for 6 months on canned food and stale water. The truth is you can Heather. You absolutely can. But it won't be much of a life, I promise. This is 90.5. Apocalypse Radio.

Twelve days since A-Day A lot of people are wondering how we've managed to stay on the air. If you're not from around here that might seem like a reasonable question. But it isn't. Atlanta can't die. Thrixton won't let Atlanta die. This is my voice. This is what's left. This is 90.5. Apocalypse Radio.
